Daily Supplement Improves Heart Health in Adults Over 40

A new study reveals that NOVOS Core can enhance vascular functions and reduce blood pressure in healthy adults aged 40 and older.

Research Overview

A recent study led by Christian Heiss, a professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Surrey, has shown promising results for NOVOS Core, a supplement aimed at enhancing cardiovascular health. The research involved healthy adults aged 40 and above and demonstrated that daily consumption of this supplement led to improvements in blood vessel function, arterial flexibility, and systolic blood pressure.

The STAMINA Study

Conducted at the University of Surrey in collaboration with the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, the STAMINA study, which stands for Effects of a Supplement to Target Ageing Mechanisms on Vascular Function, was a rigorous randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Its findings were recently published in the European Heart Journal Open.

“What distinguishes STAMINA is that it tested a comprehensive 12-ingredient formula against a placebo,” explained Diogo Barardo, PhD, the Director of R&D at NOVOS and a co-author of the study. “We designed NOVOS Core to target various interconnected aging processes, selecting ingredients with robust evidence for their efficacy and safety.”

Previous Research and Findings

Prior to this study, NOVOS Core underwent testing in cell and animal models. A report in Nutrients from researchers at the University of Bologna indicated that this product could protect human skin cells against DNA damage without causing adverse effects, demonstrating its effectiveness at surprisingly low concentrations. Moreover, similar studies with mice at Newcastle University showed a lifespan extension of over 18% in older mice that received NOVOS supplementation.

For the STAMINA study, NOVOS provided both the supplement and placebo, along with financial support for the research. However, researchers at the University of Surrey managed the study's design and data interpretation independently.

Focus on Cardiovascular Health

According to Chris Mirabile, founder and CEO of NOVOS, the central aim of the company is to discover ways to slow down the aging process and promote better health. The STAMINA study is referred to as “early human evidence” and measured cardiovascular health improvements over a six-month period. “Our next phase involves examining direct measures of biological aging,” Mirabile stated.

Mirabile emphasized the importance of blood vessels as they supply oxygen to every organ in the body and often display the earliest signs of aging, typically manifesting in individuals as early as 30 years old. “Observing changes in cardiovascular function provides a straightforward method to measure the efficacy of age-related interventions,” he stated.

Study Results

The STAMINA study included 61 healthy, non-smoking adults aged 40 and over. Participants were divided into two groups: one received NOVOS Core, while the other received a placebo. Key findings included:

  • Increased Blood Vessel Function: The NOVOS Core group saw a 47% increase in flow-mediated dilation (FMD), a key measure of blood vessel function, with a 2.9% improvement compared to the placebo group.
  • Improved Arterial Flexibility: Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), a measure of arterial stiffness, showed improvement in the NOVOS Core group while it worsened in the placebo group.
  • Reduced Blood Pressure: Systolic blood pressure dropped by 6.1 mmHg more in the NOVOS Core group compared to the placebo group.

While no changes were noted in blood lipid levels during the study, Dr. Barardo commented that the absence of impact on cholesterol or triglycerides was anticipated. “We expected that while we could influence certain aspects of vascular health, not every marker would show improvement,” he explained.

Next Steps in Research

Looking ahead, Dr. Barardo mentioned that further studies will investigate the potential advantages of NOVOS Core on other body systems, including muscle function and cognitive health, along with deeper analyses of its effects on the biological aging process.

In conclusion, the STAMINA study provides a significant step forward in understanding the cardiovascular benefits of the NOVOS Core supplement, offering hope for healthier aging.
