Chinese Medicine Leader Launches Heart Pill Trial at Global Conference
Da Ren Tang highlights the benefits of TCM at a global conference while initiating a heart pill trial in Singapore.
Global Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine
SINGAPORE — At the 23rd World Congress of Chinese Medicine, held from October 16-18, renowned Chinese medicine manufacturer Tianjin Pharmaceutical Da Ren Tang Group addressed a gathering of global practitioners, emphasizing the significance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in tackling the challenges of aging populations and chronic diseases worldwide.
The conference, hosted by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and organized by the Singapore Chinese Physicians' Association, attracted approximately 1,400 experts, officials, and industry representatives from 25 nations, under the theme “Addressing Global Health Challenges, Integrating Chinese Medicine into National Health Systems.”
Flagship Heart Remedy Under Clinical Trials
During the opening ceremony, Wang Lei, chairman of Da Ren Tang and president of Tianjin Pharmaceutical Group, unveiled plans to conduct an international randomized double-blind controlled trial of its leading heart treatment, Suxiao Jiuxin Pills, in collaboration with Singapore General Hospital, the largest acute care hospital in the nation.
This trial marks a pivotal moment, as it represents the first instance in which a Chinese proprietary medicine has undergone clinical trials at a major Western medical institution in Singapore.
Strengthening Public Health with TCM
Wang articulated a compelling argument for incorporating traditional medicine into global health discussions, contending that TCM’s holistic approach and patient-centered treatment can enhance public health systems. She stated, “Chinese medicine cannot stop at product exports,” highlighting the need for rigorous clinical evidence to gain international recognition.
Describing TCM as a “valuable solution with Eastern characteristics,” Wang pointed out its potential contribution to global health governance, aligning with China’s “Health Silk Road” vision. She underscored that with a growing elderly population and rampant chronic illnesses, countries can significantly benefit from integrating TCM into their healthcare frameworks.
A Vision for the Future of TCM
Wang laid out a strategic three-part vision focusing on:
- Conducting clinical research on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, respiratory conditions, digestive health, musculoskeletal issues, and dermatological disorders by collaborating with international medical institutions.
- Adhering to global research standards to facilitate product registrations and conduct high-quality studies in foreign markets.
- Respecting diverse medical systems and cultural contexts to forge open, trustworthy, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
She reiterated the importance of aligning Chinese medicine standards with international regulations and fostering platforms to share research findings, thus promoting the narrative of TCM globally.
