Verily Health Teams with Autoimmune Registry to Enhance Research Capabilities

New Partnership for Expanding Research

In an exciting development for autoimmune disease research, Verily Health has entered a strategic alliance with Autoimmune Registry Inc. (ARI). This collaboration aims to enhance the infrastructure for studying autoimmune disorders, allowing for a deeper exploration of patient data across various conditions.

Understanding Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune diseases affect nearly 15 million individuals in the United States, and many patients often face multiple conditions simultaneously. Existing registries commonly focus on single diseases, which limits research opportunities regarding overlapping health issues and shared traits across different autoimmune disorders.

About Autoimmune Registry Inc.

Founded in 2016, ARI has developed a comprehensive cross-disease registry consisting of more than 5,000 participants who have been diagnosed with over 100 autoimmune conditions. The registry houses valuable data, including patient-reported outcomes, medical histories, and information on comorbidities. Participation is carefully monitored by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure research ethics and integrity.

Key Components of the Collaboration

This partnership will allow Verily to contribute significantly in three critical areas:

  • Patient Engagement: Through the Verily Me application and its Lifelong Health Study, participants can easily enroll and contribute to continuous data collection efforts.
  • Research Infrastructure: Verily Workbench will provide an analytics environment governed by robust standards, while Verily Exchange will facilitate secure data sharing opportunities with pharmaceutical firms, academic bodies, and research organizations.
  • Operational Support: Verily will oversee facets of dataset management, protect sensitive information, and foster collaboration among various healthcare stakeholders.

These initiatives are part of Verily's broader health AI platform, known as Verily Pre.

Future Implications and Expansion

Stephen Gillett, CEO and Chairman of Verily Health, remarked on the significance of this model, stating, “Our work with ARI is a framework we aspire to implement in other disease communities, transforming every registry into a springboard for discovery.”

The partnership opens avenues for researchers to investigate patterns of comorbidity, track disease progression, and measure treatment outcomes across various autoimmune diseases using a well-defined longitudinal group of participants.

Beyond focusing solely on autoimmune disorders, the duo aims to create an adaptable infrastructure that patient registries and advocacy organizations can employ, streamlining efforts to build independent data management systems. As participation in the registry grows, Verily and ARI plan to enhance their collaboration with even more data sources and capabilities.
