Reversing the Rise: A New Approach to ADHD and Autism Diagnoses
A groundbreaking project in Sweden shows potential for reversing ADHD and autism diagnoses. Learn about Dr. Sebastian Lundström's innovative methods.
In recent years, the surge in ADHD and autism diagnoses among children and adolescents has raised concerns within the medical community. However, Dr. Sebastian Lundström, a child and adolescent psychiatry professor based in Skåne, Sweden, is challenging the trend. His pioneering approach seeks to reassess how these diagnoses are made, reversing them for many individuals.
Challenging Conventional Diagnoses
Dr. Lundström believes that professionals too often hastily assign neurodevelopmental disorder labels, potentially limiting individuals' opportunities throughout their lives. Over two years, he co-chaired a project providing young adults diagnosed with ADHD or autism in their youth an opportunity for re-evaluation.
This pilot program, although small, yielded noteworthy results: an astounding 90% of participants had their diagnoses reversed. Lundström explained, "Of the 72 people involved, 64 or 65 no longer met diagnostic criteria. That represents a significant number." This
